Great Blue Heron

The Great Blue Heron is found throughout most of North America, as far north as Alaska and the southern Canadian provinces. The range extends south through Florida, Mexico and Caribbean to South America. The Great Blue Heron can adapt to just about any wetland habitat in it's range. The Chattahoochee River Park has a incredible Great Blue Heron colony just north of the 14th Street Pedestrian Bridge along the banks of the River.

The Heron is surprisingly adaptable to it's fishing methods. Feeding behaviors have consisted of standing in one place, probing, pecking, walking at slow speeds moving quickly, flying short distances and hovering over water to pick up prey.
